Broadcaster Bill Cameron Dead At 62

Veteran broadcaster and author, Bill Cameron has died after a battle with cancer. He was 62.

The former CBC journalist died around midnight Friday of cancer of the esophagus.

A spokesperson for the CBC said the Gemini Award-winner's cancer had spread into his brain and liver.

Cameron is well known here in the region for working on CBC's Newsworld program out of Halifax.

In 1999 Cameron parted ways with the CBC in the wake of budget cuts.

Bill Cameron is best known as anchor, writer, reporter and documentary producer for CBC Television’s "The Journal," which signed off in 1992.

He spent twenty years as a television journalist with Global News and Toronto’s Citytv, and as host of CBC News’ Sunday Report.

Cameron is survived by his wife, Cheryl Hawkes and their three children
