Dartmouth Councillor Jim Smith says its evident already that the new owners of the former Little Nashville cabaret in Dartmouth, who intend to open an adult entertainment club at that location, will not be good neighbours.
Councillor Smith says that HRM posted a seven-day Order to Remedy on the property at 169 Wyse Road on December 8, requiring the property owner to clean-up refuse and debris at the site.
He said the deadline has passed and the property owner, Javis Roberts, has ignored the municipal order. In addition, area residents claim that someone from the building took down the notice shortly after it was posted
“There has been a large pile of construction debris piled up outside the back of the building since November. The fact he (Mr. Roberts) isn’t willing to keep his property clean and in good order is a sure sign of things to come, says Councillor Smith.
Councillor Smith and area residents are strongly opposed to an adult entertainment club opening and operating at 169 Wyse Road, which is largely surrounded by residential neighbourhoods. |

Dartmouth - Peter Mancini, NDP candidate in Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, thanked Paul Martin for finally coming to Nova Scotia - twenty-three days into the federal election campaign.
“The fact that Paul Martin did not come to Nova Scotia until over three weeks into the federal election campaign, is yet another example of Liberal arrogance”, said Mancini, “And to add insult to injury, he simply re-announced a program that was announced months ago”. |

Liberal Leader Francis MacKenzie wants the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services to open up more portable daycare spaces. In August and September 2005, the Department of Community Services held consultations on future investments in childcare. The input received was to be used to develop Nova Scotia's five-year plan for childcare, but to date no plan has been made public. On May 16, 2005 the Province of Nova Scotia signed a five-year agreement with the federal government that provided an additional $20.4 million, which is available to be drawn down before March 31, 2006. |

Motor vehicle collisions claim more lives and cause more injuries for children and youth than any other cause in Canada. The new changes will require children to be buckled into a proper-fitting booster seat until they are old enough, or large enough, to safely use an ordinary seatbelt.
"Securing children into the right kind of car seat makes a huge difference," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Ron Russell. "When correctly used and installed, child car seats can reduce deaths by about 90 per cent and injuries by 70 per cent. These changes are going to protect our children if they are involved in a crash." |

NDP Leader Jack Layton today predicted that Liberals in Toronto will attempt “to paint Stephen Harper and the Conservatives as the big bad wolf. It’s all a fairy tale.”
Introducing the “Team Toronto” NDP candidates, Layton pointed out that Conservatives in Toronto finished an average of almost 15,000 votes behind, and that a federal Conservative has not been elected from Toronto in 17 years. |

Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced a comprehensive plan to strengthen Canada’s food production sector, which will review the Agriculture Policy Framework based on the “Easter Report,” provide funding for export market development and extend green-cover incentives.
“Farming and fishing families are the ones who put food on our tables, a vital part of our economy, and the backbone of Canada’s rural communities,” the Prime Minister said. “The measures announced today will assist in the evolution of the industry to ensure that Canada’s food production industries continue to thrive.” |
