Premier Rodney MacDonald added some new faces today, June 26, and moved some familiar faces into new portfolios as he named the 18 members who will form his new cabinet. The provincial Executive Council will be sworn in on Tuesday, June 27, at 11 a.m. in Halifax.

ReadyToBeServed.com is a grassroots movement long overdue in the province of Nova Scotia. The Sunday Shopping debate in this province has evolved into two very distinct sides - those who want the choice and those who don't. Until now the most vocal side has been presented by the anti-Sunday Shopping crowd who maintain that Sunday must remain closed to retail while ignoring the fact that the only retailers who are mandated to remain closed are businesses over 4,000 square feet in size. Opponents to Sunday openings insist that being able to shop six days a week should be enough. Of course, the anti-side are missing the point.

Montana Alberta Tie Ltd. today announced it has just filed its Facility Application with the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (AEUB) to build and operate a 347 kilometre, 300 megawatt bi-directional power transmission line between Lethbridge, Alberta and Great Falls, Montana. The line, which will tie together the Alberta and Montana power grids, will be the first cross-border merchant transmission line between Canada and the US.

In the aftermath of the June 3rd arrest of seventeen 'home-grown' terrorists in Toronto, at least one daily newspaper in Halifax had quoted a spokesperson for the municipal Emergency Measures Organization as stating that Halifax is prepared for a terrorist attack. Indeed the headline read, "City Prepared for Terrorism."

The results of a poll released today show that Canadians are rejecting Stephen Harper's plan to distribute a $1,200 child allowance to parents with children under six years of age. The Environics poll asked more than 2,000 Canadians their views on child care and the response was clear - 76% of Canadians support a national affordable child care strategy such as the 2004 federal-provincial agreement that was cancelled by the Conservative government.

Responding to Whole Foods Market Inc.'s decision to ban the sale of live lobsters and crabs on the grounds that it's inhumane, Bedford's Clearwater Seafoods Ltd. has entered into a new partnership with the natural food chain to supply "humanely produced" and deeply respected lobsters.

More than 300,000 Nova Scotia property owners will have a chance to review their proposed 2007 assessments, now that notices are in the mail. The proposed notices were sent to owners of properties whose assessments are expected to increase by more than three per cent in 2007, and are based on Jan. 1, 2005 market value.

Harper speaking today in Toronto stressed the importance of this country doing everything possible to prevent the sort of transportation attacks like was experienced in the United Kingdom and Spain.
