Frank StreicherThere comes a time in every man’s life when he has to admit to himself that being the fourth best columnist at the fifth largest news organisation in Halifax is not as glorious as he had imagined. Sure there are occasional perks, including free tickets to the provincial junior accountant’s annual curling bonspiel, but these are not enough to stop one from asking life’s big question: is anticipating success in Tim Horton’s ‘roll up the rim to win’ contest really a sound retirement plan?

The Sirius Fan Network has learned that CBS is dumping David Lee Roth and replacing him with Opie & Anthony .

Roth was hired by CBS as the replacement for the departed shock jock Howard Stern , who left CBS in a historic move that  took the King Of All Media to Sirius Satellite Radio earlier this year.

Brian Mulroney will be honoured by Corporate Knights, the Canadian magazine for responsible business, as the Greenest Prime Minister in Canadian History this Earth Week on April 20th at a dinner in Ottawa. A program of speeches will include remarks by Rick Mercer, Elizabeth May (representing the selection jury), the Hon. Jean Charest (speaking as a former federal Environment Minister), Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and former Prime Minister Mulroney.

Class Action Lawsuit Commenced by Owners of Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 Notebook Computers Print E-mail

A national class action has been commenced on behalf of Canadians who own Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 Notebook Computers. The claim seeks compensation as a result of alleged defects in the Satellite Pro 6100 Computers. The defendant named in the lawsuit is Toshiba of Canada Limited ("Toshiba"). A similar action in the United States involving the Satellite Pro 6100 Computers against Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. was recently settled.

Harper Child Care Comments an Attempt to Bolster Unpopular Plan Print E-mail

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is resorting to divisive tactics and distortions to try to get his unpopular child care plan through Parliament, says the chair of the Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada (CCAAC).
    
Debra Mayer said that the child care news release issued by the Prime Minister's Office yesterday shows the government is worried about the growing opposition to its child care proposals from parents and the provinces. The Prime Minister has also met with lobby groups that support his child care plan in an effort to try to sway public opinion, but has refused a request to meet with the CCAAC.

China - Yahoo! Implicated in Third Cyberdissident Trial Print E-mail

Reporters Without Borders has obtained a copy of the verdict in the case of Jiang Lijun, sentenced to four years in prison in November 2003 for his online pro-democracy articles, showing that Yahoo! helped Chinese police to identify him.
    
It is the third such case, following those of Shi Tao and Li Zhi, proving the implication of the American Internet company. The verdict, made available and translated into English by the human rights group, the Dui Hua Foundation, can be downloaded from the Reporters Without Borders' website.

Liberal Leader Francis MacKenzie wants to know why the Conservative government spent $26,309.26 on a party to open an office in Ottawa. The Liberal caucus has learned through a Freedom of Information request that 14 government staff and 5 Ministers attended the event at a cost of $12,725.67 for flights, accommodations and meals.

The people of Scotland including politicians and even the media have displayed strong support for Glasgow's bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. However, Glasgow's bid has a serious problem, so serious in fact, that it could prove to be fatal.

Scotland's bid suffered a major blow today, and that blow came directly from Scotland's Daily Record, which is touted as, "Number One for Scottish Sport."

The Daily Record led off with a shocking headline entitled, "THIS COUNTRY'S LEADERS ARE LETTING US ALL DOWN .. JUST LIKE THE BIGOTS."
