Greg Monforton, President-Elect of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the lawyer representing hundreds of Canadian Vioxx claimants in all provinces reacted to Wednesday's successful New Jersey jury verdict by saying, "this verdict in New Jersey is very encouraging news for all Canadians who have suffered heart attacks or strokes while taking Vioxx, as well as for the families of those who lost their lives while doing so".

The City of Toronto is nearing a decision on whether to submit a formal bid to host a World Expo in 2015. A second round of Public Consultations is scheduled for April and a City Council decision will likely be made in late May, Councillor Brian Ashton, Chair of the Toronto 2015 World Expo Steering Committee, announced on Wednesday.

Popular recording artist Gene Pitney has been found dead in the Hilton Cardiff hotel in Wales. Pitney had just finished the first half of a UK tour and had previously displayed no signs of illness. Hours before Pitney's body was found he had performed to an enthusiastic crowd at St. David's hall in Cardiff.

In a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Cathy Kangas, CEO and Founder of PRAI Beauty, a global beauty company, has offered to raise the $16 million that Canadian fishermen will realize from the sale of the pelts of slaughtered baby seals. Ms. Kangas wrote: "If you stop this year's hunt immediately, we will provide you with the $16 million to be distributed at your discretion." The Canadian government has stated repeatedly that the seal hunt provides needed off-season income to the fishermen in the communities of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Newfoundland.
