News 95.7 radio blew it. News 95.7 had a great opportunity to showcase the Tory leadership convention this weekend and blew it, big time. Where were they? As one media person told me, ‘you mean they were there’ at the convention? Being in my news mode and wanting information on what was being called one of the closest political races ever, this past Saturday afternoon I hit the radio dial and started twisting and calling newsrooms. I called several newsrooms to find out if they had a reporter or two at the convention and when the ‘coverage’ was to begin. |

Reporters Without Borders today deplored the Malaysian government's decision to suspend the Sarawak Tribune daily newspaper's publishing licence for reprinting the controversial caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed in its 4 February issue. A tabloid in Indonesia was seized by authorities for the same reason.

Liberal Energy Critic, Manning MacDonald, says Service Nova Scotia is holding for ransom public information about the Keep the Heat program.
The department is charging the Nova Scotia Liberal Caucus Office $2,190 for a request made under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The caucus office requested 30 days of correspondence between the department and its information call center staff to learn why false information about who qualified for rebates was given to the public.

Minister for International Trade and Minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver-Whistler Olympics David Emerson today announced $33.88 million in funding for the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Organizing Committee (VANOC). This announcement fulfills the Government of Canada's commitment to support Vancouver 2010 capital requirements for the current fiscal year.

The Department of Energy is offering a $200 rebate to Nova Scotians who purchase Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified wood or wood pellet stoves between Oct. 12, 2005, and Aug. 31, 2007.
"We are helping Nova Scotians make smart energy choices that will help the environment and help their pocketbook," said Energy Minister Cecil Clarke. "This rebate helps Nova Scotians make a smart and renewable energy choice."

Reporters Without Borders today condemned the US firm Yahoo! for handing over data on one of its users in China which enabled the authorities there to send him to prison for eight years, the second such case that has come to light in recent months.
It called on Yahoo! to supply a list of all cyberdissidents it has provided data on, beginning with 81 people in China whose release the worldwide press freedom organization is currently campaigning for.
