The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) says it has a plan to improve its client service to Canadians. The problem is they think they can do it by reducing the number of staff who actually provide the service.
Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) National President Nycole Turmel says that up to now the Revenue Agency has been trying to reduce the availability of service. "Our members have been working hard at raising public awareness about CRA's plans announced earlier this year to close its cash counters and to eliminate walk-in service at its client service counters. Canadians responded and CRA has decided to keep the cash counters open." |

Nova Scotians under the age of 65 with diabetes and no drug insurance are now able to register for the province's new diabetes assistance program, which begins Jan. 1.
This new Pharmacare program helps people with the cost of diabetes medications and supplies, and provides educational materials to promote a healthy, active lifestyle.
When people with diabetes can't afford the medications and supplies they need, they have a greater chance of developing complications such as heart disease and kidney failure. The program aims to reduce that risk. |

Raising the minimum age for leaving school above 16 would help solve Canada's high-school dropout dilemma, says a C.D. Howe Institute Commentary released today. With one in five young adults lacking a high-school diploma, politicians and educators are looking for solutions, says the paper, "Stay in School: New Lessons on the Benefits of Raising the Legal School-Leaving Age." The dropout rate is disturbing, it notes, because dropouts fare much worse than graduates later in life. They earn less, on average, and are more likely to be unemployed, and draw social assistance. |

After being seated at the Ristorante Piccolo Mondo, I was immediately imbued with a senses of optimism. Its cause was not the $9 glass of house wine that I had just imbibed at the bar. Instead, it was the conversation that was coming from the table next to us. There, bathed in candle light, was a middle aged man chatting up a beautiful woman in fluent Italian . Being an expert in these matters - I have after all not missed a single episode of the Sopranos- I instantly deduced that it was his goombah. “Bueno, Bueno”, I thought: this place must be the real thing. |

This is NOT a Hoax! This is a true miracle! A Personal Chef in California cuts a potato in half and the symbol of a perfectly shaped holy cross appears according to a claim made today by the spud's owner. And you guessed it, in keeping with the Christmas spirit of consumerism, the holy potato will be auctioned off on eBay just a week before Christmas. |

NDP House Leader Kevin Deveaux says that he is pleased that amendments passed today to the Off-highway Vehicles Act, Bill 275 will finally implement the recommendations put forward in the final report of the Voluntary Planning Task Force on Off-highway Vehicles.
"Let's be honest. This has been a tough process," says Deveaux. "The NDP maintained from the beginning that the extensive public consultation done by Voluntary Planning should be respected and the Task Force recommendations put into legislation, but not everyone else was there." |
