Profits in Canada's tourism industry will decline in 2007 and 2008 partly because the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) will further reduce the number of Americans coming north, according to the Conference Board's Canadian Industrial Outlook: Canada's Tourism Industry-Winter 2006.

An international ring, which smuggled people from several countries both ways across the Canada - United States border, was rolled up today after an international investigation.
Early Tuesday morning, fourteen people were arrested in Toronto, Windsor, Detroit and New York City. This is the latest move in a two year long investigation conducted by the RCMP, the United States Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

A theme park in Pictou County hopes to capture the attention of more summer tourists, thanks to the support of the province.
The province provided a $350,000 loan today, Feb. 13, to help Magic Valley Family Fun Park install new attractions. Located in Greenhill, Pictou Co., the theme park is a key tourism attraction in the area and is a source of employment for local students.

The province of Nova Scotia has created an arms-length agency to administer four Nova Scotia public sector pension plans, Finance Minister Peter Christie announced today, Feb. 13.
The Nova Scotia Pension Agency will provide administrative services to support the Public Service Superannuation Plan, the Teachers' Pension Plan, the Members Retiring Allowance Plan, and Sydney Steel Superannuation funds. To date, these have been managed by a division of the Department of Finance.

Reporters Without Borders today deplored the Malaysian government's decision to suspend the Sarawak Tribune daily newspaper's publishing licence for reprinting the controversial caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed in its 4 February issue. A tabloid in Indonesia was seized by authorities for the same reason.
