Paul Martin Notifies Governor General Re: Resignation, Thanks Canadians Print E-mail

 Prime Minister Paul Martin early this morning spoke by phone with Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada. Mr. Martin advised her of his intention to resign as Prime Minister of Canada.

Mr. Martin addresses his fellow Canadians:

At the end of a tremendous campaign I want to thank each and every one of you for your hard work and support. I am so proud of what we have accomplished – in eight weeks and 18 months – for Canada and for Canadians.

RBC Issues Refund To App. 23,000 Clients Who Prepaid Their Mortgage Between 1999-2004 Print E-mail

RBC Royal Bank announced today that it is providing refunds to approximately 23,000 residential mortgage customers who were assessed an incorrect mortgage prepayment charge. The mortgage prepayment charge applies when a customer breaks, converts or early renews their mortgage before maturity.

Additional Diagnosis of BSE Not Unexpected Print E-mail

The Canadian Cattlemen's Association (CCA) commented today that confirmation of BSE in an Alberta cow is not unexpected. It has been recognized by animal health authorities in Canada, the United States and around the world that a few additional cases of BSE would likely be detected by Canada's surveillance system. Countries that have reopened to Canadian beef and live cattle have done so recognizing that a few additional cases of BSE would likely be diagnosed and this latest case should not affect access to those markets.

Lady Luck To Determine Access To Physicians Print E-mail

Liberal Health Critic, Dave Wilson is extremely disappointed that government's failure to recruit physicians has resulted in a lottery draw for patients in Yarmouth.

"This is an absolutely bizarre situation," said Wilson. "It's completely unacceptable that the residents of the South West Nova District Health Authority must apply to access a physician and then hope that they are lucky winners."
