CIBC World Markets Predicts Canadian Oil Will Become One of The World's Most Valuable Energy Sources Print E-mail

An increasingly tight oil supply will continue to force crude prices higher and make Canadian oil sands the single biggest contributor to net new global supply by the end of the decade, states a report released today by CIBC World Markets.

In its Monthly Indicators report, CIBC World Markets notes that despite a near doubling in crude prices over the last two years, non-OPEC production failed to increase in 2005. This limited the total increase in global supply to less than a million barrels a day.

Buyer Beware - U.S. Flood Damaged Vehicles May Be Entering Canadian Marketplace Print E-mail

"Beware of vehicles being sold from the U.S. and imported into Canada that may be flood damaged vehicles from the recent natural disasters in the southern U.S." warn CCMTA, Canada's road safety administrators.

The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA), an organization comprising federal, provincial and territorial governments responsible for road safety in Canada, cautions consumers on purchasing used cars with origins along the U.S. Gulf Coast that may be flood damaged vehicles.

NDP Health Critic Dave Wilson Calls for Regular Colorectal Cancer Screening Print E-mail

NDP Health Critic Dave Wilson has written the Minister of Health, Angus MacIsaac, to ask that the Department adopt recommendations that those between the ages of 50-74 are screened for colorectal cancer at least every two years. The recommendations were made by Health Canada's National Committee on Colorectal Cancer Screening and are fully supported by the Canadian Cancer Society.

Prominent Canadian International Figures Call for a Department of Peace Print E-mail

"As Canada is pressed to forge ever closer ties with U.S. defence policy and the "war on terror," it is time to create a Department of Peace, committed to peacebuilding, conflict prevention and disarmament, central to our political tradition." The previous is the opening statement in a letter to Canada's national party leaders.

The authors of this letter include two of Canada's most prominent figures in the field of human security, peacebuilding and disarmament - The Hon. Lloyd Axworthy, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Sen. Douglas Roche, former Canadian Ambassador for Disarmament. They are calling for the creation of a Canadian Department of Peace which would function in close collaboration with Foreign Affairs, DND, CIDA and civil society groups.
