Nova Scotia Premier Rodney MacDonald is encouraging all Nova Scotians and all Canadians to send a strong and united message to Ottawa by signing a petition on Nova Scotia's website.
"I believe Canadians expect Ottawa to honour agreements made between all provinces and territories," the premier said. "I have already signed on - and the more people who show their support for this message, the louder it will be heard in Ottawa."

NDP Health Critic David Wilson has written the Minister of Health, Chris d’Entremont, to ask him to investigate the case of a young Nova Scotia mother who was sent by M.S.I. to the United States for a consult on possible cancer surgery, but has now been denied access to the surgery recommended by both her doctors here and the specialists she saw in Philadelphia.
“It’s no secret that sometimes to get the best advice and treatment for rare conditions you have to travel to see the best,” says Wilson. “We thought the government understood that when they sent Angela Feindel for a consultation to the U.S.”
“So why stop now and not help this Nova Scotian complete her recovery?’

Several fishing groups are lobbying to prevent a Scottish company, Lunar Fishing Inc., from trawling for herring off Cape Breton, arguing it will endanger fish stocks. The Scottish parent company came to Lunenburg in the fall of 2005 hoping to find mackerel, but that hasn’t happened and the company was allowed to catch herring in the meantime.

Councillor Bill Karsten, Portland - East Woodlawn, expressed concern on Wednesday about an article in Monday’s Daily News by Howard Epstein. Mr. Epstein wrote about the appeal to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board regarding the “Twisted Sisters” development in downtown Halifax. In his article, Mr. Epstein said that HRM Council “got it wrong” and insinuated that they did not follow the intent of the Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS). Although, Mr. Epstein is entitled to express his opinion, Councillor Karsten, as well as other Councillors, are offended by the insinuation that they sold the land to the developer in 2004 and in order to get the best price offered a tower.
