The Canadian Union of Postal Workers today launched a new campaign called "Operation Transparency," with the delivery of a public ultimatum to Canada Post. The president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Deborah Bourque, asked her Canada Post counterpart, Moya Greene, to disclose the plans for postal services by May 15, 2006, or face escalating actions that could go as far as non-violent civil disobedience.

The Nova Scotia government will introduce legislation this spring to help protect Nova Scotia electricity consumers by restricting the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to granting only one power rate increase per year.
The utility and review board today, March 10, allowed an 8.9% increase in the domestic residential power rate. This is the second rate increase in slightly less than a year.

Workers at three more Nova Scotia nursing homes have voted to take strike action to back their union's contract demands.
The 90 employees at Shoreham Village in Chester, members of CUPE Local 3454, voted 80% in favour of taking strike action if the parties can't reach a negotiated settlement.

Premier-designate Rodney MacDonald announced on Feb. 23, the names of the 15 MLAs who will be in his cabinet. The provincial Executive Council will be sworn in on Friday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. in Halifax.
The premier-designate said that his cabinet and government will continue to co-operate and look for common ground with opposition parties, realizing that Nova Scotians want government to do its job, working for the people, not for partisan purposes. Ten of the members were in the previous cabinet, while five are newcomers.

There’ll soon be a buzz in the air in District 6, but the local Councillor says it won’t be music to everyone’s ears.
Councillor Andrew Younger said today that he has been advised that the Province of Nova Scotia will be harvesting Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle-infested wood in the Lake Lamont/Topsail Watershed lands in Dartmouth, some time this week or later. The project could take up to two weeks to complete.
