Halifax Live has learned that the popular talk radio program, The Hotline Show on 9.20 CJCH will remain on the air but with a new host as local celebrity Rick Howe prepares to announce his candidacy bid for mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality. Howe is set to be the first serious contender for the top job.
Over the last ten years Howe has become a well known and popular personality in the community as the host of The Hotline Show. The station was taken over by CTV Globemedia late last year and since that time speculation over the future of the show has run rampant as the radio station prepares to move to the FM format. Howe has been consistently noncommittal when asked about the future of the show which has been a stalwart of CJCH for decades. The opinionated talk show host sporting his ever-present trademark ball cap has continuously denied that he had any interest in politics even though many of his repeat callers have suggested that he would be quite effective as the mayor of HRM. He has been called "the voice of the common people". Several reliable sources have informed Halifax Live that The Hotline Show will remain on the air with Brian Philips taking over hosting duties. The revamped show will consist of a 15 minute segment from 10:00 am to 10:15 am, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Although no calls will be taken, Philips' trice-weekly rant will be sure to rock the establishment. Happy April Fool's Day! |
