PROVINCIAL HEATING PROGRAM LACKS Print E-mail
Written by Liberal Caucas Media Release
Wednesday, 09 November 2005

Liberal Energy Critic, Manning MacDonald, is not satisfied that government is doing all it can to help low-income Nova Scotians get through the winter. "Their current program, giving $250, won't even completely fill one tank with oil," said MacDonald. "And it's not fair that those who heat their homes with coal, wood or electricity can only apply for a $100 rebate, how are they supposed to pay to keep warm?"

Liberal Leader Francis MacKenzie is still wondering what government will do to solve high heating costs in the long-term. "We saw a very nice glossy brochure with no hard facts to address this issue," MacKenzie said. "The rebate is a band-aid solution, that's all the NDP and the Tories are offering. The Liberal plan has some real viable solutions that are doable now," he added.

MacKenzie along with the Liberal Caucus will be giving an energy update with more facts about what a Liberal Government will do to bring more cost efficient energy into Nova Scotia Homes, using Nova Scotia resources.
