HALIFAX - A man carrying a gun entered The Salvation Army Strawberry Hill Thrift Store in Halifax at 9:30 am on Monday. He confronted the cashier and demanded that the store safe be opened. The cashier and the store manager complied with his demands, and the gunman made off with $3,000. There were six staff and an equal number of customers in the store at the time.
Although staff members were shaken, no injuries were sustained. "We never expected anything like this to occur at any of our stores", said Mr. John Kershaw, Managing Director of The Salvation Army National Recycling Operations (Thrift Stores). "Our main concern is for the well-being of our staff and their security as well as the safety of our customers", he said. Counsellors are on site, providing support and comfort to the staff. The Strawberry Hill Thrift Store is closed to business today, but it is expected to reopen later this week. Police investigation is ongoing. |
