CLEAN COAL TECHNOLOGY - A VIABLE OPTION Print E-mail
Written by Francis MacKenzie
Tuesday, 15 November 2005

Francis MackenzieLiberal Leader Francis MacKenzie along with Energy Critic Manning MacDonald released more details of the Liberal Energy Strategy today in Halifax. The Liberals support Clean Coal Technology as an affordable, accessible and economically beneficial option for Nova Scotians.

MacKenzie is calling on the Nova Scotia Government to begin a campaign to lobby the federal government to build a demonstration facility here in Nova Scotia. The fully funded Greenfield installation is to be awarded by 2010. So far, Alberta is the only province in the race for this project.

"The government has got to act now to at least get Nova Scotia on the radar screen," MacKenzie said. "Nova Scotia has an abundance of coal, and we have the expertise to build a highly advanced facility with a near zero emission, so this province is a natural choice."

Francis MacKenzieEnergy Critic Manning MacDonald is also calling on Natural Resources Minister Richard Hurlburt to award the lease for the Donkin sub sea coal resource now. "The call for proposals went out in December of 2004. The minister promised an announcement in early July, what's the hold up," MacDonald questions.
