A delegation from the Quebec Provincial Association of Teachers, representing the teachers in the English-language school boards of Quebec, presented Premier Jean Charest with his first term report card, today, November 17, at his office, 2001 McGill College.
Not surprisingly, Mr. Charest received a failing grade for his inability to attain the basic competencies of his first term in office. In his dealings with the teachers he has shown himself to be inflexible and unwilling to address the problems posed by the reality of everyday schooling in the province of Quebec.
In particular, he has seriously jeopardized the education system in Quebec by failing to address, in a satisfactory fashion, the problem of services to students with special needs. According to QPAT President, Françoise Stake: "Based on his performance to date, it is unlikely that Mr. Charest will be permitted a second term to obtain a passing grade. It is more likely that he will be given some time off to attend remediation sessions." |
