NDP Leader Jack Layton said that this wide-open election campaign allows Canadians to choose between the Liberal record of broken promises and the NDP’s plans to make parliament put people first.
“The Liberal priorities are wrong. They have disappointed Canadians,” Layton said while speaking at the University of Toronto, pointing to the Liberals’ repeated attempts to cut corporate taxes. “Paul Martin with corporate tax cuts is like a dog with a bone. No matter how many times New Democrats bury it, Mr. Martin keeps digging it up.
“It’s time to build for the future by improving education and training rather than spending money on corporate tax cuts,” Layton said. Layton said that the NDP platform will soon be released, and will include restoration of funding that Paul Martin cut from post-secondary education and will fix the Canada Student Loans Program to reduce the burden of student debt. “We’ll fix student aid so that working people and the middle class can afford to give their children the skills they need – without mortgaging their future,” Layton said. Layton said more New Democrats will ensure parliament puts people first. |
