NDP Leader Jack Layton today delivered a strong warning about what people get when they vote Liberal.
Speaking with Ed Broadbent and NDP candidate Sid Ryan in Oshawa, Layton noted that in the last election, a fair number of people who voted Liberal must be disappointed.
“In Oshawa – and in more ridings than you’d think across Canada – they voted Liberal thinking they’d get a Liberal MP,” Layton noted. “In Oshawa – and across Canada – they got a Stephen Harper Conservative instead.” “In places like Oshawa, where the Liberals run third – a vote for the Liberals helps elect Stephen Harper Conservatives,” Layton said.
Layton said that in this wide-open election, people have the option of voting NDP and getting a New Democrat MP who will put people first in Parliament. Layton also laid out four elements of an auto strategy consisting of:
- A commitment to research and development;
- Targeted incentives, tied to performance, to encourage retooling for new product lines;
- Fair trade with Korea and Japan to ensure that auto trade flows in both directions; and
- Action to eliminate transportation bottlenecks that are tying up exports to the United States.
“A comprehensive and effective auto strategy will be a core element of our program in the next Parliament,” Layton said. |
