The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) today announced that Dr. John McNab of the Fall River is one of 10 national recipients of Canada's Family Physicians of the Year Awards for 2005. The awards will be presented during Family Doctor Week in Canada (December 5-11) at the CFPC's annual meetings in Vancouver, B.C.
Canada's Family Physicians of the Year are chosen by their peers for providing exceptional care to their patients, making meaningful contributions to the health and well being of their communities, and dedicating themselves to the education of future generations of family doctors. "Celebrating the role of the family physician is a milestone we look forward to each year," said Dr. Alain Pavilanis, President of The CFPC. "This year's recipients have demonstrated the care and compassion of skilled family physicians, and they are deeply committed to their patients."
Dr. John McNab, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, came to Canada at the age of 5. He is an honours graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. "Dr John", as he is known by many of his patients in the community of Fall River, Nova Scotia, is a partner with eight other family doctors in the Fall River Family Practice. McNab is a Clinical Lecturer in the Departments of Family Medicine and Nursing at Dalhousie University. He is an examiner for certification in Family Medicine for the College, a former member of the College's Board of Directors, and is Past President of the Nova Scotia College of Family Physicians. He has served as a peer reviewer for Canadian Family Physician and sat on the Nova Scotia Task Force on Nursing, the Ministerial Working Group on Nurse Clinicians, and the Task Force on Regionalized Health Care. McNab along with his wife Marion and five children enjoy a rich family life in Oakfield, near Fall River. He is active in his community and church and involved in public speaking on topics of medical interest, theology, ethics and sexuality. He is a founding member of "His Mansion", a rehabilitation farm for youth in rural PEI. |
