MACKENZIE SAYS METRO CABBIES NEED MORE SUPPORT Print E-mail
Written by Media Release
Wednesday, 28 December 2005
Nova Scotia Liberal Leader Francis MacKenzie on behalf of the Liberal Caucus sends his deepest sympathy to the family of Dartmouth Cabbie Ken Purcell who was tragically killed on Christmas morning. "This is a terrible loss, our heartfelt sympathies go out to all the family, friends and fellow colleagues of Mr. Purcell," said MacKenzie.

MacKenzie is calling on both the provincial government and the Halifax Regional Municipality to find solutions to better protect our taxi drivers. "These men and women provide an important service to many of us in our community, including seniors and tourists. They deserve more respect and better protection from the violent crimes they are so often faced with."

MacKenzie would like to see every cab in the city with a protective shield, something they have been asking to have for a long time. "Financial support to buy these shields has got to be considered. Many cabbies can't afford the cost, so let's try to help them."
