Father and Son Multi-Millionaires Look Forward to Golfing Around the World Print E-mail

John Graydon of Dartmouth, N.S., awoke this morning at 3 a.m. and began getting ready for his shift at the Enfield Airport. By 3:19 a.m., he'd checked his Lotto 6/49 ticket and knew he'd never have to work again.

John and his father Patrick Graydon were the sole winners of the Dec. 28, Lotto 6/49 draw. Their ticket is worth $15,427,356 - enough they say to keep them golfing around the world.

Both men see a lot of golfing in their future. "We don't have our passports so it looks like Florida is where we'll start," says Patrick. "I'm thinking of buying the course at home....it's up for sale," joked John.

Originally from England, the men say they'll do a European tour, playing St. Andrews, Scotland, and other famous courses along the way. The change will be instantaneous for John. "I'm officially retired," he said, noting that he hasn't made it official with his employer yet. "When I found out I won, I called work and said I couldn't go in because of a family emergency. On the way up here I kept thinking, if this isn't real, I'm going to be unemployed tomorrow!"

"We have no conception of what this really means," insists Patrick, a retired military man.

The father and son team have been playing Lotto 6/49 together for years, using birthdays to compile their numbers. "Dad is all about numbers," said John, "and he's always saying, 'do you know what the odds are?'"

John says that a boat is also in his future. He had a 26-foot sailboat that was damaged beyond repair by vandals a few years ago. "I had been dreaming about a new boat, looking at them on the internet. I had one picked out but now... I'm thinking of upsizing to a 35-foot catamaran!" Some upscale car shopping is in the works as well.

John's girlfriend, Kerry Burgess, and Patrick's wife Joyce have their own ideas. Joyce insists that the house would get a new countertop and new hardwood floors. Kerry simply said to John before he left this morning, "Just don't spend it all in one place!"

John bought his ticket at Travelex in the Enfield Airport. It will receive a $154,273 seller's prize, representing one per cent of the winnings.
