Rumour has it that American business tycoon and real estate developer Donald Trump may be seriously considering throwing his hat in the ring in an attempt to persude New Yorkers to place him in what could be described by The Donald as untapped real estate - the Governor's Executive Mansion.
Senate GOP leader Joseph Bruno teased reporters in the Big Apple yesterday by coyly intimating that a very rich and well known mystery person is set to seek the Republican party's backing in order to replace the outgoing Governor George Pataki.
Although Bruno refused to name names, he did tell reporters from the New York Daily News, "When it gets public, you are all going to become excited, interested, and will want to write about it. This person is thinking about it, and I bet you you'll vote for him if he ends up running." Mr. Trump has not commented as yet on the persistent rumours but it is worth mentioning that The Donald did consider a Presidential bid in 1999 under the Reform Party platform but later opted out because he was unimpressed with the party's "messy" platform.
Many believe that Donald Trump's credentials, experience and just plain 'chutzpah' would be a definite asset for political leadership in the state of New York, a part of the world in which Mr. Trump has often declared his devotion. On the other hand, it is doubtful whether Mr. Trump would move into the official Governor's residence if elected as it would be considered a step down from the opulence enjoyed by the world's most famous realtor and star of The Apprentice. On a more positive note however, would it be a bad thing to have golf declared the state's official leisure activity? Governor Trump, you're hired! |
