Canada's Walk of Fame today announced details of a new contest through which Canadians can help nominate the next recipients of a star on the Walk of Fame in June 2006 in Toronto.
Walk of Fame President Peter Soumalias expalins, "Canadians take great pride in knowing that their fellow Canadians are having a major impact on the world of entertainment, sports and literature. We're tapping into that pride, allowing ordinary Canadians to have a say in who we honour in 2006."
Using a comprehensive multi-media campaign across the country and working with multiple partners, Canada's Walk of Fame is inviting Canadians here at home and around the world to visit its website at www.canadaswalkoffame.com to nominate the Canadian(s) who they feel deserve to be honoured in 2006.
Anyone making a nomination will automatically be entered to win a Canada's Walk of Fame Star Treatment - a trip for two to Toronto to take part in all the festivities courtesy of Air Canada. The winner and a guest will walk down the Red Carpet, get an up close view as the 2006 inductees unveil their stars, watch the live Tribute Gala Show, mingle with the stars at the Black Tie Gala and more. Criteria for nominations includes:
- Nominees must have been born in Canada or have spent their formative or creative years in Canada
- Nominees must have minimum of 10 years experience in their field
- Nominees must have had national or international impact on Canada's heritage
Established in 1998, Canada's Walk of Fame aims to educate, inform, and inspire through the permanent celebration of the achievements of Canadian music, arts and entertainment luminaries. The annual celebration culminates in a televised tribute special that honours Canada's finest stars from the worlds of arts, entertainment, and sports. Each inductee is immortalized, their names forever cemented into the sidewalks of Toronto's entertainment district. To date, 93 Canadians have been honoured. |
