Drug Bust in Halifax Leads To Seven Being Charged With Cannabis Importing |

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Greater Toronto Area Drug Section has charged seven people with drug related charges in relation to the importation of approx 500 kilograms of cannabis resin oil and approx 360 kilograms of cannabis (marihuana).
Canada Border Services Agency members discovered the drugs secreted in a container in Halifax with a destination of Toronto. This investigation involved the RCMP Drug Enforcement Unit in Halifax as well as the Toronto Police Service 31 and 22 Division officers. Arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Import a Controlled Substance and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking are: 1) Everton James, age 21, of Pickering, Ontario. 2) Wayne Anthony Barrett, age 39, Ajax, Ontario. 3) Evan Lincoln James, age 46, of Pickering, Ontario. 4) Sean Egerton Barnswell, age 35, of Pickering, Ontario. 5) Donovan Gordon, age 45, of Toronto, Ontario. 6) Velipillai Yogarajah, age 35, Toronto, Ontario. 7) Ponnampalam Arumugam, age 51, Toronto, Ontario.
"Organized crime's involvement in drugs provides for easy availability of illicit substances and subsequent increased use of certain drugs by youth," states Supt. Ron Allen, Officer in charge of the Greater Toronto Area Drug Section. "Turf war issues and related violence are a direct result of this." This investigation is on-going. |
