Contrary to earlier reports that one Canadian soldier died of injuries sustained in a suicide bomb attack in Kandahar, it has now been confirmed that three Canadian soldiers were injured in the blast and a Canadian diplomat was killed.

Dead is 59 year-old Glyn Berry, a senior Foreign Affairs diplomat who had been serving in the Kandahar region as the political director of the 250-member provincial reconstruction team in Kandahar, according to CTV news.

Two of the injured Canadian soldiers are reported to be in critical condition with injuries that are considered to be life threatening.

The injured soldiers have been identified as:

-Pte. William Edward Salikin of 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry,
-Cpl. Jeffrey Bailey of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment
-Master Cpl. Paul Franklin of 1 Field Ambulance.
