Nova Scotia Liberal Leader Francis MacKenzie is shocked by the Health Minister Angus MacIsaacs' refusal to meet with a taxpayer who has a legitimate issue.
Dave White of Halifax has been caring for his bed-ridden daughter since she was in a serious car accident in 2001. She was hospitalized for 11 months. Upon leaving, Mr. White was given no information about home-care or physiotherapy follow-up.
White spent thousands of dollars on private nursing care, and physiotherapy for his daughter only to be told after a second hospital visit that his daughter qualified for home-care. Officials at the QE II told Mr. White that they failed to give proper follow-up information. "Does this mean if families don't ask for home-care for loved-ones who need it, they don't get it? Or are frontline healthcare providers so overworked that people like Mr. White fall through the cracks?" asks MacKenzie.
White attempted several times to get a meeting with the Health Minister to discuss the issue, but he was unsuccessful. White then called his Liberal MLA, Diana Whalen. Whalen contacted the Angus MacIsaac on White's behalf, only to receive a letter from the minister's assistant informing her of the minister's policy that he doesn't meet with individuals. "I am shocked, the minister has such a policy. He is elected by the people, it is his responsibility to meet with taxpayers who request it," added MacKenzie." |
