Decision Should Have Been An Open Process, Says MacKenzie Print E-mail
Written by NS Liberal Party

Liberal Leader Francis MacKenzie would like to ask the premier why there was no open competition for the position of what amounts to as a provincial diplomat in Ottawa. Long-time Tory Ian Thompson has been chosen to represent the province in the nation's
capital at Nova Scotia's "office" at a salary of $130,000 per year.

"If this office is supposed to be open to any Nova Scotian wishing to advance the interests of the province in Ottawa, then why wasn't the job open for anyone to apply," asks MacKenzie.

MacKenzie believes the decision to spend $400,000 per year opening and running this facility should have been open to suggestions from all parties.

"Is the premier accountable for this new facility, and who will be measuring its progress?" asks MacKenzie. "This was not in the budget and it is not in the business plan of Intergovernmental Affairs."

MacKenzie also believes the timing of the message is suspicious as Tory leadership candidate Neil Leblanc announced the very same thing just yesterday in his platform. "This just looks like the Premier is trying to trump the candidate who he doesn't support," said MacKenzie.
