Liberal Leader Francis MacKenzie was shocked to hear that Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Health has established a policy refusing to meet with individual Nova Scotians, even if they have a legitimate health concern. "I couldn't believe it," said MacKenzie.
David White approached the Liberal Caucus when he couldn't get past the Minister's Officials after several unanswered requests for an appointment. Liberal MLA Diana Whalen sent an email message to the department on his behalf, but an assistant to the minister told her, "It is a matter of policy that the Minister of Health does not meet with individuals." MacKenzie says he understands the minister can't meet with everyone. "But to have a policy like this, it's just wrong. The minister should have, at the very least, arranged for someone in authority to talk to Mr. White."
After White's daughter was severely injured in a car accident, he wasn't told her care qualified for provincially funded home care services. He has since spent his life savings caring for his bed-ridden daughter and her six year old son, Cody. The family of four is now on social assistance. MacKenzie is drafting a letter to the minister, asking him to investigate White's case. |
