Lady Luck To Determine Access To Physicians Print E-mail

Liberal Health Critic, Dave Wilson is extremely disappointed that government's failure to recruit physicians has resulted in a lottery draw for patients in Yarmouth.

"This is an absolutely bizarre situation," said Wilson. "It's completely unacceptable that the residents of the South West Nova District Health Authority must apply to access a physician and then hope that they are lucky winners."

Reports surfaced today indicating that future patients of Ocean View Family Practice, scheduled to open in March 2006, will be chosen by lottery. Residents of the area who are looking for a general practitioner are being asked to submit an application and will be chosen at random.

"It's a sad state of affairs when accessing a physician in our province comes down to the luck of the draw."

Wilson added that this is a perfect example proving Premier Hamm's comment of May 2005 that the Nova Scotia health system in care crisis.
