CUPE: Ocean View Manor Health Care Workers Vote to Strike Print E-mail
Written by CUPE
Tuesday, 31 January 2006
Employees of Ocean View Manor in Eastern Passage have voted 85% in favour of strike action.

The members of CUPE Local 1245 voted last night. CUPE National Representative Peter Baxter says the vote is significant because, “This group is the ‘lead table’ negotiating provincial issues on behalf of 3,000 CUPE nursing home workers in 37 facilities across the province.”

CUPE represents 132 frontline workers at Ocean View Manor.

CUPE strike votes are being held across the province over the next couple of weeks. The union represents the vast majority of workers in nursing homes in Nova Scotia.

The main issues in the dispute are wages, a shift differential, weekend premiums and the dental plan.
