Province-Wide Generator Program a Success |

Communities across Nova Scotia now have improved access to back-up electrical power during an emergency thanks to the conclusion of a successful generator program.
The Emergency Management Office has issued the final cheques to help municipalities purchase generators for use in comfort centres throughout the province. Schools, community centres and fire halls that municipalities use to provide shelter during an emergency were eligible for the generators.
"Improved access to back-up electrical power during emergencies is very important for the safety and security of all Nova Scotians," said Ernest Fage, Minister responsible for the Emergency Management Act. "We were very pleased we were able to assist municipalities be better prepared for emergencies through this program."
In total, 101 generators and electrical hook ups were purchased with the provincial government contributing $500,000. Under the terms of the program, the province shared up to 50 per cent of the cost, to a maximum of $3,600. |
