More than 6,000 CUPE health care workers from across Nova Scotia have created a new provincial health care committee to represent workers in three sectors - hospitals, long term care and home support (home care).
CUPE Nova Scotia President Danny Cavanagh says, "Workers from the three sectors met in Truro this past weekend and overwhelmingly approved the formation of a Health Care Workers' Co-ordinating Committee (HCWCC).
"We are putting employers and the provincial government on notice that CUPE health care workers will no longer be divided, and will be co-ordinating our efforts on bargaining matters and elsewhere, now more than ever," says Cavanagh.
Betty Jean Sutherland, the newly-elected Chairperson of the HCWCC and a nursing home worker from Pictou County, says, "CUPE health care workers make up a large and vital part of our network of services in Nova Scotia. This new committee will become the vehicle for ensuring our issues are being addressed and that CUPE's voice is being heard across the province." |
