Trade Mission Promotes Business Down Under |

Nova Scotia's film, television and new media producers have an opportunity to up their exports Down Under during a trade mission to Australia and New Zealand, Feb. 13-24.
The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation is leading the mission, the first of its kind for Nova Scotia's film industry. Fourteen companies will participate in the mission with visits to Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand.
The mission was made possible through the support of the film development corporation and the Trade Routes program of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Nova Scotia producers to build new business networks, explore co-production opportunities and gather important market information," said Ann MacKenzie, chief executive officer of the film development corporation. "Australia and New Zealand have strong emerging creative talent, similar market size as Canada for their products, and public support for their industries -- all of which makes these countries attractive for film industry partnerships."
Companies representing the full range of Nova Scotia's film, television and new media industry will be taking part in the mission. Participants include Arcadia Entertainment Inc., Collideascope Digital Productions Inc., Copernicus Studios Inc., Creative Atlantic Communications Ltd., The Halifax Film Company, Ocean Entertainment Ltd., PAL Science Media Ltd., Trailer Park Productions Ltd., Picture Plant Ltd., Playmaker Films, Straight Edge Films, and ZIJI Film and Television.
Nova Scotia producers will participate in seminars and panels during the annual Australian International Documentary Conference and take part in one-on-one meetings with producers, broadcasters, distributors and funding agencies.
The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation is a provincial Crown corporation reporting to the minister of Economic Development. The corporation provides a wide range of programs and services to build the capacity and competitiveness of the province's film, television and new media industries. The provincial film industry is the fourth largest in Canada, regularly exceeding $100 million in economic activity annually. |
