Nursing home workers at several more Nova Scotia facilities have given their union a strike mandate.

Employees of East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash (Local 2391) have voted 80% in favour;

Employees at MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney (Local 1562) have voted 98% in favour;

Employees at Northside Community Guest Home in North Sydney (Local 1876) have voted 83% in favour;

Employees at Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home (Local 3630) have voted 100% in favour.

CUPE strike votes are being held across the province over the next couple of weeks. The union represents the vast majority of workers in nursing homes in Nova Scotia.

CUPE represents 3,000 nursing home workers in 37 facilities across the province. The main issues in the dispute are wages, a shift differential, weekend premiums and the dental plan.
