NS Liberals Calling for Independent Investigation Print E-mail
Written by NS Liberal Party
Tuesday, 14 February 2006
Liberal Critic, Manning MacDonald, is calling for an independent investigation of two recent contracts awarded from the Department of Economic Development.

On February 13, Economic Development gave a $250,000 loan to a company that leases land from Minister Fage. The same day, Conservative-friendly Magic Valley in Pictou County was given $350,000.

MacDonald points out that an investigation is warranted because the ministerial code of conduct for Nova Scotia states 'ministers must avoid situations where a conflict of interest or a reasonable perception of such a conflict of interest could arise.'

"There is a clear conflict of interest here," said MacDonald, "and I'm wondering if these are the only two contracts that have personal ties to this minister and his Conservative friends."
