Three More Nursing Home Groups Vote To Strike |

Workers at three more Nova Scotia nursing homes have voted to take strike action to back their union's contract demands.
The 90 employees at Shoreham Village in Chester, members of CUPE Local 3454, voted 80% in favour of taking strike action if the parties can't reach a negotiated settlement.
One hundred employees at Oakwood Terrace in Dartmouth, Local 2774, voted 87% in favour of strike action. Forty-six employees at Scotia Nursing Home in Beaverbank, Local 3618 voted 91% in favour of job action.
CUPE National Representative Peter Baxter says, "With meetings scheduled for March 15 between the NSAHO (Nova Scotia Association of Homes Operators) and Oceanview Manor, our lead table, let's hope both sides can hammer out a negotiated settlement in this dispute.
CUPE represents dietary, laundry, cleaning, Personal Care Workers, LPN'S and maintenance workers at 37 nursing homes across Nova Scotia. |
