Canadian satirist Rick Mercer has done it again. The man who in the past began a campaign to change Stockwell Day's first name to Doris has posted a "Liberal Leadership Kit" auction on eBay.
Mercer announced the eBay auction earlier this week on The Rick Mercer Report in response to the lack of interest in Canada for filling the shoes of recently departed Paul Martin for the position of Liberal party leader.
In the description posted on eBay, Mercer invites interested persons looking for a challenge to bid for the coveted Leadership Kit which includes a fifteen minute "consultation/conference call with the RMR (Rick Mercer Report) writing staff" and use of one colour printer running low on magenta. The bid at the time of this writing stands at $16,000,000.00 Canadian placed by someone known only as 'sillyboy97'. Bidding started at $15.00.
The bidding process has been fast and furious proving finally that several Canadians do indeed have the desire to lead the Liberals. Of course with all auctions, there will be those who try to jump to the head of the queue and the Liberal Leadership Kit auction is no exception. A member using the name 'belindastronach' placed a $100,000.00 bid but Mercer who has always been quick on the uptake, recognized immediately that belindastronach was not a registered user and thereby cancelled her bid. Also trying to get in on the action was a member calling himself 'no_longer_former_pm_paul_martin' but he apparently cancelled his own bid with the excuse that he had entered the wrong amount. Other notable bidders include 'former_pm_joe_clark' ($4,800.00) and 'davidorchard_peters_biotch' ($15,000.00). The auction is set to end on March 14. Mercer will announce the winner on a future RMR show. The action can be seen here . |
