Further Arrests in Canada/U.S. Human Smuggling Ring |

Six people were arrested yesterday afternoon in Windsor by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Immigration and Passport Section. These persons were arrested for their alleged connection to an international human smuggling ring that was disrupted in February.
The arrests were a culmination of a 2 year investigation conducted by the RCMP, United States Department of Homeland Security, Canada Border Services Agency, Ontario Provincial Police, Windsor Police Service, Canadian Pacific Railway Police and the United States Border Patrol. Fourteen people were arrested on February 14, 2006 for their involvement in smuggling migrants across the Windsor-Detroit border.
Police allege that migrants from China, Korea, Albania and Eastern Europe arrived in North America and were then smuggled across the Canada-United States border using many different methods including; trunks of automobiles, rail cars, the back of transport trucks and on small boats. "Yesterday's arrest of 6 people include those individuals who played an active role in getting the migrants across the border", stated Cpl. Rod Rudiak of the Windsor RCMP Immigration and Passport Section. Arrested are: 1) Ashley Rose NOGUEIRA (Age: 21) Howard Avenue, Windsor 2) Barbara Anne SCHAWILLIE (Age: 43) Victoria Avenue, Windsor 3) Rana SAFOU (Age: 27) Gem Street, Windsor 4) Eraldi ZIZOLLI (Age: 22) Venetian Cres, Windsor 5) Denise MICHALUK (Age: 25) Clemenceau Blvd, Windsor 6) Luay DAWOD (Age: 36) Caron Avenue, Windsor Charges relate to Conspiracy to violate US law and Conspiracy to organize the entry of one or more persons into Canada. |
