Government Still Misguided on Gambling Print E-mail
Written by NS Liberal Party

Liberal Economic Development Critic Manning MacDonald is questioning the Conservative government's decision to fund a high-tech firm that gives gamblers advice.

MacDonald is responding to today's government announcement that it is giving a payroll rebate of $1.59 million to SportsDirect Inc. over five years.

"This service is appealing to those who are at the greatest risk of becoming problem gamblers," says MacDonald. "How can the government say they are committed to assisting individuals with gambling problems, and then provide funding for a company who that tells gamblers where to place their bets?"

MacDonald says the Conservative government should not be investing in this type of gambling. "If the government has the resources to put into gambling in this province, they should be directed at addiction services," says MacDonald.
