Wal-Mart in Lower Sackville will be closing as soon as their new digs are ready in Bedford. Sources say Wal-Mart is not happy at their current location, on Sobey's property. With the move also comes new product, items that Sobey's sells, otherwise known as groceries. That appears to be the main issue Wal-Mart has for leaving - the lease doesn't allow them to get into the grocery business on a major scale.
In related news - Wal-Mart in Dartmouth (Penhorn mall) will be moving to the new complex at the top of Burnside. Penhorn Mall will be demolished to make way for a new residential subdivision, according to loose lips at the local Wal-Mart. Loose lips at Zellers in Bedford were well aware of the friction between Wal-Mart and Sobey's, but refused to say where they get their gossip. Back to Wal-Mart Lower Sackville. You can view a current picture of the new Wal-Mart construction site in Bedford....which also just happens to be the development where the new three-rink ice surface and sporting facility is being constructed, CLICK HERE. Other major retailers are also said to be looking at the site as a potential location, including a major US outlet store. |
