The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) is expanding the number of its Agency Stores to improve service to smaller communities throughout the province. A Request For Proposal (RFP) is being issued Monday, May 8, 2006 for an additional 31 potential communities.
The NSLC established its first eight agency stores in 2001. An additional 15 opened in 2005. Agency stores are local businesses authorized to sell beverage alcohol in addition to their normal product mix. Most are convenience stores, with a designated area to sell at least 50 selections of wine and spirits and at least 12 domestic and imported beer selections. They are located in smaller communities where it is not economically feasible to establish an NSLC corporate store. The 31 communities and surrounding areas listed in the Request For Proposal for release on May 8, 2006 are as follows: -Boylston (Guysborough County) -Port Greville (Cumberland County) -Halfway Cove (Guysborough County) -Larrys River (Guysborough County) -Springfield (Annapolis County) * -New Harbour/ Coddles Harbour (Guysborough County) -Louisdale (Richmond County) -Fourchu (Richmond County) -Big Bras d'Or (Victoria County) -Cape North (Victoria County) -Wallace (Cumberland County) * -Rawdon/ Rawdon Gold Mines (Hants County) * -Vaughan (Hants County) -Wedgeport (Yarmouth County) -Homeville (Cape Breton County) -Goshen/ Lochaber (Antigonish/ Guysborough County) -Indian Brook/ North Shore/ French River (Victoria County) -Canning/ Halls Harbour/ Blomidon (Kings County) * -Neils Harbour (Victoria County) -Albert Bridge (Cape Breton County) -Big Pond/Ben Eoin/ East Bay (Cape Breton County) -Lismore/ Arisaig (Pictou/Antigonish County) -Goldboro/ Cross Rds./ Country Harbour (Guysborough County) -Ecum Secum/ Liscomb/ Moser River (Guysborough/ Halifax County) -Peggy's Cove/ Dover/ Whites Lake/ Shad Bay area (Halifax County) -Port Joli (Queen's County) * -Lower/ Middle/ Upper Ohio (Shelburne County) * -Judique (Inverness County) -Merigomish (Pictou County) -Riverport/ Rose Bay (Lunenburg County) -West LaHave (Lunenburg County)
The asterisked communities are currently “dry areas,” prohibited from selling beverage alcohol. The NSLC will consider applications through this Request For Proposal in case any of those communities decide to change their status. A plebiscite will be required to allow the retailing of beverage alcohol in these communities. Businesses that respond must be able to provide separate sales records for the beverage alcohol section and approximately 200 square feet of space in a retail store. Responses to the Request For Proposal must be submitted by May 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Public Tenders Office. The RFP’s can be provided by the Public Tenders Office at (902) 424 3333 or are available online Monday, May 8, 2006 at www.gov.ns.ca/tenders . The response will be analyzed according to the criteria outlined in the Request For Proposal and awarded by certified mail. |
