We Can't Afford Home Heating HST Rebate - Hamm Print E-mail

Nova Scotia cannot afford the 8 per cent home heating rebate announced in the Tory Budget this week, according to former Tory Premier, John Hamm.

The shocking news broke Wednesday on a local talk radio show on AM 920 CJCH radio.

John Hill, a retired business owner, has been leading the charge for the government to remove the HST from home heating fuel.

Last week, he delivered a 20,000-name petition calling for the elimination of HST on home-heating fuel to Province House.

On Wednesday, while being interviewed by Rick Howe on the Hotline, Hill said he was talking with former Premier Hamm just "the other day," and Hamm told him that the province cannot afford the  8-per-cent provincial sales tax rebate home heating bills announced in Premier Rodney MacDonald's first budget.

Hill also implied that Hamm may also have been warning him that the rebate announcement in the budget may have been just smoke and mirrors on MacDonald's part.

Hw explained that he knew former Premier Hamm from dealing with him as a pharmacist while Hamm was a active a physician.
