Barry Barnet Appointed Nova Scotia's New Minister of Volunteerism Print E-mail

Nova Scotians have their first Minister responsible for Volunteerism. Barry Barnet takes on the job immediately, Premier Rodney MacDonald announced today, May 11.

"The new Minister responsible for Volunteerism is the government's recognition of the commitment and good work Nova Scotians are doing in their communities," said Premier MacDonald. "Barry Barnet will lead with commitment and energy to develop Nova Scotia's first volunteer strategy."

The government announced in the budget on Tuesday, May 9, its commitment to recognize and support the key contributions volunteers make in their communities throughout Nova Scotia.

"Volunteers take up challenges each and every day," said Mr. Barnet. "I am pleased to accept this new responsibility as Minister responsible for Volunteerism, recognizing the crucial part Nova Scotia's volunteers play in making our communities and the province strong."

Along with the new responsibilities, Mr. Barnet will continue his duties as Minister of Health Promotion and Protection, African Nova Scotian Affairs and Communications Nova Scotia.
