ReadyToBeServed.com is a grassroots movement long overdue in the province of Nova Scotia. The Sunday Shopping debate in this province has evolved into two very distinct sides - those who want the choice and those who don't. Until now the most vocal side has been presented by the anti-Sunday Shopping crowd who maintain that Sunday must remain closed to retail while ignoring the fact that the only retailers who are mandated to remain closed are businesses over 4,000 square feet in size. Opponents to Sunday openings insist that being able to shop six days a week should be enough. Of course, the anti-side are missing the point.
ReadyTobeServed.com was created in a concerted effort to promote, encourage and demand that Nova Scotians be given the choice on whether we shop on Sunday or not. Those who continue to oppose Sunday openings will certainly not be forced to enter any given retail establishment. We are demanding the choice - the act of shopping on Sunday is merely a bonus. Before the current debacle initiated by Premier Rodney MacDonald on Friday, June 23rd Nova Scotians were offered a taste of Sunday shopping as a result of the actions of two major grocery retailers - Loblaw's Supertores and Sobey's. From all accounts and this writer's own observations large numbers of shoppers took advantage of the openings.
