At least one member of the Canadian military is glad to be alive and relatively unharmed after being shot four times with a BB gun late Saturday afternoon
The victim who didn't want his identity revealed had just left work for the day and was standing, still wearing his military uniform, at the corner of North and Brunswick at approximately 6pm Saturday waiting for the bus that would carry him across the bridge. As he was waiting for Metro Transit's number 1 bus he noticed a pickup truck stopped at the traffic lights adjacent to where he was standing. Despite the fact that the victim did not perceive any threat from the three occupants of the pickup truck, just as the traffic lights turned green the victim felt several sharp pains on various parts of his torso. At the same time, he looked toward the truck and was shocked to see the passenger "pulling his arms back inside the truck" as it sped off toward the bridge.
It was at that point that the number 1 bus arrived and after taking a quick but unproductive look around for BB shells the victim boarded the bus and was transported to the Dartmouth Sportsplex where he immediately reported the incident to a Metro Transit Shift Supervisor. Although metro police were called, they later concluded that because of lack of any clear evidence, they would not be proceeding with an investigation. Police informed the victim later that same evening that after viewing Bridge Commission video tapes, they were able to confirm the victim's description of the three male passengers driving in a pickup truck but were unable to ascertain the license plate number or the make/model of the vehicle. The victim describes the assailants as three white males, 20 - 25 years of age driving a late model blue pickup truck. The shooter who was sitting in the passenger seat was wearing a black tank top. He is also described as having distinct facial hair similar to a goatee. The middle passenger was wearing a white tee-shirt. The victim was unable to provide a description of the driver. With the exception of two red welts on his torso the victim did not suffer serious injury and did not seek medical attention. He and his wife told HalifaxLive that they were particulary relieved that the shooter did not aim higher. The victim had just a few months ago undergone extensive brain surgery. Halifax Regional Police were contacted by HalifaxLive.com via email but did not respond to our requests for a comment by our publication deadline. |
