Exclusive: Jazz Legend Gerry Granelli Falls Off Cliff |

 Legendary jazz drummer and longtime Halifax resident Gerry Granelli yesterday fell off a cliff while hiking with his family in the Cape Breton Highlands around Inverness. Although the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time, Halifax Live has learned that the Mr. Granelli is expected to survive the plunge.
Mr. Granelli gained fame in the 1960’s and 1970’s by working with such noted musicians as Charlie Haden, Sly Stone, Miles Davis and the Grateful Dead. He once opened for the comedian Lenny Bruce and, notably, provided the drum track for the theme song which accompanies the Peanut Christmas special. In 1985, Mr. Granelli moved to Halifax in order to teach. He later started the Creative Music Workshop . Still an active musician, Mr. Granelli and his avant-garde V16 Project recently featured at the 2006 Halifax Jazz fest. In light of his enormeous talents as well as his link to the legends of the past, jazz fans in Halifax and from around the world are hoping that Mr. Granelli will make a speedy and full recovery. Adendum Aug. 16, 2006: According to the latest reports received by HL , Mr. Granelli in very good health and is expected to make a full recovery shortly.
