According to today’s Globe and Mail, Israeli ambassador Alan Baker expressed his desire to see Canadian warships patrol the Lebanese coast to help stop weapons shipments to Hezbollah. He will be reassured, therefore, that our Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Peter MacKay, was spotted on Monday inspecting the fleet.
With a foresight befitting a Minister of the Crown, Mr. Mackay began his duties by closely mustering the ferry that runs between P.E.I. and Nova Scotia. The vessel, albeit a bit on the rickety site, could theoretically be utilized to transport back bits and pieces of Sea King should these ancient flying machines see action in the Middle East. Alternatively it could be dispatched to rescue the next wave of Canadians from Lebanon. With a bit of luck it might make it there just in time for the resumption of the conflict in a month or two. Having completed his inspection, it was comforting to observe that the Honorable Minister found the time to mingle with ordinary Canadians, especially a smashing blonde whom he undoubtedly reassured - for a good part of the journey - that the Canadian government had the Middle East crisis firmly under its control. It was also good to see that his traveling companion, a mysterious and attractive brunette (maybe an assistant of sort?) was catching some fresh air, while giving her blackberry a thorough workout. Quite possibly she was relaying back to Ottawa the Minister’s growing concern about the escalating situation in Sri Lanka. |
