Adam Sandler Donates Video Games to Israel While Lebanon Sifts Through The Dust Print E-mail

Hollywood funnyman Adam Sandler felt the urgent need to help the people of Israel recover from the 34-day war with Hizbollah and what could be more healing than a Sony Playstation?

Four hundred (that's 400) Sony Playstations to be exact. Sandler stipulated that the donated video game consoles are to be distributed only to Israelis whose homes were damaged by Hizbollah rockets in the month-long conflict.

The actor's generosity comes after meeting with Israel's consul general in Los Angeles, Ehud Danoch who has been meeting with several Hollywood types including actors and directors as he attempts to spread the word far and wide of the incredible damage to Israeli homes from Hizbollah rockets. Danoch was apparently also very verbose in explaining to anyone in Hollywood who cared to listen, details of the recent but as yet tenuous cease fire. The consul general also touched on the continuing threat from Hizbollah.

And speaking of Hizbollah, they are actively involved in the reconstruction of entire towns and villages that were blown to dust by Israeli rockets and missiles. Whether right or wrong, Hizbollah is now handing out to the people of Lebanon cash, large amounts of cash that is to be put toward the rebuilding process.

It's entirely understandable that Sandler chose to send Playstations to Israel - most homes by now probably have the electricity to plug them in. We can only assume that is why he didn't include a donation of some sort to Lebanon who will be lucky to have power by this time next year considering that country sustained just under $4 billion worth of damage to infrastructure which experts are saying will take up to 18 months to complete reconstruction. And that estimate does not include housing which could take 3 or 4 years to rebuild.

So, Mr. Sandler we're sure the people of Israel lucky enough to receive one of your Playstations will enjoy them thoroughly - preferable we're sure to all that depressing news on TV that insists on talking about the people of Lebanon who will continue to sift through the dust formerly known as their homes as they attempt to salvage bits and pieces of their former lives.
