News 95.7 FM Radio talk show host Andrew Krystal earlier this morning had as his on air guest Nova Scotia Premier Rodney MacDonald who spoke on a number of issues while continuing to maintain his stance regarding his and his family's private life. Halfway through the scheduled 40 minute intervew Krystal touched on certain criticisms directed toward the premier's refusal to publically address the recent breakup of his marriage with wife, Lori-Ann.
The premier's response echoed his previous stance regarding his personal life, insisting that it be "left as a private matter" despite the swirl of rumours currently making the rounds. Instead Mr. MacDonald centered on his continuing role as father to his son and offered several examples of his close relationship. Krystal throughout the conversation was highly supportive of everything MacDonald said and could almost be described as fawning over the premier as he touched on Sunday Shopping - premier admitted he shops on Sunday; Stora - the loss of Stora would create "huge challenges" but is not a fan of corporate welfare; NS's highway and infrastructure - much work being done but much more is necessary; gas regulation - continues to defend regulation and provided examples of rural gas station owners praising the program.
But the big question of the day remained unanswered including the issue of a rumoured affair on the premier's part as being a possible reason for the breakup of his marriage. Many Nova Scotians contend that because the premier based a large portion of his pre-election campaign on family values, he has a responsibility to be forthcoming at least to those who voted him into power. One such person who is calling for MacDonald to issue a public statement dealing with the breakup is CJCH Hotline host and Daily News columnist Rick Howe who declared that the "public has [a] right to know why MacDonald's marriage broke up". According to Andrew "big-hairy-deal" Krystal who again brought up the issue after the premier had departed, incoming calls for MacDonald were unofficially being screened and at least one caller was told that he would not be allowed to ask the premier anything about the breakup. |
